Adding Online Tutoring to your D2L Course

Online Tutoring with Brainfuse Tutor Match

LSC-Montgomery tutors, including The Write Place consultants and Language Lab tutors, are now available via the online tutoring tool Brainfuse TutorMatch.

Online tutoring is available for Math, Statistics, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Accounting, Computer/Technology, ESOL, Language, and English/Writing.

Online tutoring is automatically activated for all course modalities: Online, hybrid, and face-to-face. However, faculty may want to add a link to Brainfuse in the D2L course shell to improve visibility and accessibility of online tutoring.

Brainfuse/TutorMatch will allow students to...

  • connect with a live tutor via an online video/chat session
  • submit a writing assignment for review by a tutor
  • view sample Math and English lessons in Skill Surfer

Click the next tab in this box to learn how to integrate online tutoring for your students.

Adding Access to Online Tutoring to Your D2L Course

The document below provides step-by-step instructions for adding links to online tutoring and other academic support resources in D2L. These instructions incorporate best practices for student access and consistency across online courses. This accompanying video tutorial will guide you through the process, step-by-step:

While the Brainfuse online tutoring integration can be added to any module in a D2L course, if faculty implement the steps outlined in this document consistently across all online courses, academic support services will be better able to direct students to find the access link for Brainfuse in any given course.

Faculty Dashboard is a task manager. In it, the professor can generate a specific task for students, monitor the progress of the task, and receive a report when the task is finished.

You can access the Brainfuse Faculty Dashboard through myLoneStar by selecting "LSC Online" and then clicking the tile "Online Tutoring". If you use "Brightspace D2L" to reach your courses, click on the "Brainfuse" access link that you created in your D2L courses.

Faculty can choose one of these three tutoring modalities:

  1. Tutor Match gives the student unlimited hours, free of charge, with LSC tutors. The student can make a one-hour appointment with a tutor of his/her choice.
  2. Live Tutoring gives the students access to Brainfuse (i.e. non-LSC) tutors. This interaction will count toward the free of charge 90 minutes that a student has per semester with the Brainfuse tutors.
  3. Writing Lab is an asynchronous platform where a tutor reviews the student's essay, sending back observations and comments. No direct interaction occurs between student and tutor in the "Writing Lab". In this option, the student can select LSC tutors or Brainfuse tutors.

Tip: For Montgomery tutors, the student should choose those names that end in MC (e.g. JaneR.MC).

If the topic or subject of your class does not appear on the list, please contact us at:
