In-Person Coaching

The STAR Center offers in-person academic coaching in one-on-one appointments/sessions and group workshops in The HUB 2 (Building F, Room F112). Our coaches can help students mitigate and overcome perceived barriers, identify areas of strength and weaknesses, devise a personalized plan of action, and more. 

The following subjects/topics are offered through group workshops or one-on-one appointments/sessions. Each vary in length (approximately between 30 minutes and 1 hour).

Ever wish you had a detailed map that takes you directly to better results in class? Our Study Planning workshop will show you the secrets of metacognitive learning strategies and exactly how to reach your destination!
Do more in less time. Sound too good to be true? Check out our Time Management workshop to see just how true this can be for you!
Being able to take efficient and effective notes is an important part of college success. Join us for our Introduction to Note Taking workshop and learn how to get the most out of your notes!
Never say, "I'm just bad at taking tests" again! Our Test Taking Strategies workshop will teach you the techniques and methods that will have you start looking FORWARD to any test day!
Our College Preparedness workshop will give you a glimpse at some of the essential skills you will need to start your college career off right, and to keep yourself on track for success!
Wondering what it will take to be successful in an online class? Our Online Learning workshop will show just how to achieve the success you want in an online environment.
Never used D2L before? No problem! This D2L Basics workshop will show how to access course materials, upload assignments, post on discussion boards, and everything else you’ll need to know in order to start your D2L based courses off on the right foot!
Having the ability to set and achieve goals is an essential part of every successful student’s game plan. In our Goal Setting workshop, not only will we teach you how to set the right goals for yourself, but we will also show how to reach them no matter what hurdles may stand in your way.
Whether you realize it or not, everyone has preferences on how they learn something new. Knowing your preferences can help you learn more efficiently and effectively as a student. Our Learning Styles workshop will help you discover what your preferences are and how to use all the different learning modalities while studying.
Being a college student can simply be stressful and can impact you in ways you may not even realize. Our Student Stress Management workshop will help you identify what your stressors are and help you learn some coping mechanisms to make certain your student life is more successful and easier to navigate.
Everyone experiences failure at some point. It is how we handle failure that determines our future successes. Learn how to view failure as an asset and the strategies that will turn failure into a tool for reaching your next goal in our How to Handle Failure workshop.
Students will learn the very basic fundamentals of starting and working with a Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document in a one-on-one session setting.

Walk-ins are also welcome, and are assisted on a first come, first served basis. View our service hours for the current semester.
