Visit the STAR Center

 

The Student Tutoring and Research (STAR) Center is located on the Lone Star College-Montgomery campus at 3200 College Park Drive, Conroe, TX 77384. Visit Spaces & Guidelines for more information about STAR Center spaces available around campus.

In-person service appointments and reservations for study spaces and computers are available to students, faculty, and staff. Click the tabs below for more information about the services and spaces available, as well as information about how to make an appointment or reservation. Students, faculty, and staff are also welcome to walk-in for assistance on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Study Space & Computer Reservations

The STAR Center is open and services are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students, faculty, and staff can make a reservation for the following:

  • Computers with Special Programs & Scanner
    • Use specific programs to complete class assignments. Click the "Info" button when selecting a computer station to learn more about the programs available at that station. 
    • 1 hour min - 2 hour max
  • Study Rooms
    • Study rooms to use your laptop or read
    • 1-hour min - 2-hour max

All study spaces and computer stations are located in the STAR Center (1st Floor, Bldg. F). For more information and step-by-step instructions for making a reservation, click on the links below.

Community patrons (non-LSC currently enrolled students / faculty / staff) may use STAR Center services on a first-come-first-served basis by requesting assistance at the STAR Center Service Desk (Bldg F, First Floor) or Science Homework Lab (B-113). Appointments cannot be made ahead of time online or via phone/email.

The STAR Center offers in-person services by appointment and walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis. Students can make an appointment for the following services: 

  • Academic Coaching
  • Research & Citation Help
  • Writing Consultations (The Write Place)

Service Information

Academic coaching is a one-on-one session with an academic coach that provides support in improving academic skills and performance. Coaches can help mitigate and overcome perceived barriers, identify areas of strength and weakness, devise a personalized plan of action, and more!

To set-up an in-person appointment with an academic coach:


Step 1: Go to the appointment page
Click this link to open the STAR Center Appointment Page.

Step 2: Select a Service
Choose “Academic Coaching”

Step 3: Select the Date
Select from the available dates for your appointment. Appointments must be made at least 1 hour in advance, and you can schedule up to a month in advance.

Step 4: Select Time
​Select from the available appointment times.

Step 5: Continue
​Click on the continue button.

Step 6: Check Information
​Make sure the information in the Appointment Details box is correct. If you need to make changes, select “Change Appointment Details.”

Step 7: Enter Your Details
Enter your first name, last name, email, and student ID number.
Briefly describe the topic or question you would like to discuss.

Step 8: Confirm Appointment
​If you are ready to make your appointment, click on the “Confirm Appointment” button
You will receive an email confirming your appointment for your selected day and time.

Bring all the material that you might need for the appointment (course syllabi, notes, notebook, laptop, homework, textbooks, etc.).
The LSC-Montgomery Reference Librarians can assist you with understanding the resource requirements of your assignment such as whether you need academic articles or primary resources, planning a research strategy for developing keywords and understanding what questions you will need to and, where to locate the library’s available resources that meet your assignment needs and match your chosen research strategy. Finally, the librarians can aid in crafting correct citations through locating creation guidelines and reviewing your bibliography once complete.

To set-up an in-person appointment with a librarian:


Step 1: Go to the appointment page
Click this link to open the STAR Center Appointment Page.

Step 2: Select a Service
Choose “In-Person Research Consultation”
Click on the drop down box to select the type of reference service you need: citation help or research help.

Step 3: Select the Date
Select from the available dates for your reference appointment. Appointments must be made at least 1 hour in advance, and you can schedule up to a month in advance.

Step 4: Select Time
​Select from the available times during the librarian’s reference hours.

Step 5: Continue
​Click on the continue button.

Step 6: Check Information
​Make sure the information in the Appointment Details box is correct. If you need to make changes, select “Change Appointment Details.”

Step 7: Enter Your Details
Enter your first name, last name, email, and student ID number.
What class is this for? (If not for a specific class, enter "None")
Briefly describe the assignment, topic, or research question you wish to discuss.
You also have the option to upload a file to send to the librarian. This could be your assignment description or your list of citations.

Step 8: Confirm Appointment
​If you are ready to make your appointment, click on the “Confirm Appointment” button.
You will receive an email confirming your appointment for your selected day and time.

Please make sure to bring your assignment description or list of citations to the appointment.
Students needing a computer/printer, wifi access, or study space to complete assignments may reserve a space in the STAR Center.

To reserve a study space or computer station in the STAR Center:


Step 1: Go to the reservation page
Click this link to open the STAR Center Reservation Page.

Step 2: Click the "Reserve a Study Space/Computer" button and select the appropriate category from the drop-down list.
Select the reservation type needed:
  • Computers with Special Programs & Scanner
    • Use specific programs to complete class assignments. Click the "Info" button when selecting a computer station to learn more about the programs available at that station.
  • Study Rooms
    • Study rooms to use your laptop or read; two people per room.
Step 3: Select the Date
Select the "Go to Date" button or use the arrows to select the date your reservation.

Step 4: Select a Time
​Select from the available timeslots.
  • All sessions default to 1 hour and can be reserved for up to 2 hours a day.
Step 5: Continue
​Click on the "Submit Times" button.

Step 6: Check Information
Review the reservation information.

Step 7: Enter Your Details
Enter your name, LSC email, student ID number, phone number, and reason for your visit.
If you are picking up an item, include information about the item.

Step 8: Confirm Appointment
​If you are ready to make your appointment, click on the “Submit My Booking” button.
You will receive an email confirming your reservation for your selected day and time.
In-person tutoring is available by appointment and walk-ins on first-come,first-served basis. Our tutors are dedicated professionals who create a supportive environment to assist you in mastering course content and achieve success in the classroom.

To set-up an in-person appointment with a tutor:


Step 1: Go to the appointment page

Choose the appropriate tutoring option.

Step 3: Select the Date
Select from the available dates for your appointment.

Step 4: Select Time
​Select from the available appointment times.

Step 5: Continue
​Click on the continue button.

Step 6: Check Information
​Make sure the information in the Appointment Details box is correct. If you need to make changes, select “Change Appointment Details.”

Step 7: Enter Your Details
Enter your first name, last name, email, and student ID number. Also include a brief description of the assignment, topic, or any questions you wish to discuss.

Step 8: Confirm Appointment
​If you are ready to make your appointment, click on the “Confirm Appointment” button.
You will receive an email confirming your appointment for your selected day and time.

Bring all the material that you might need for the appointment (course syllabi, notes, notebook, laptop, homework, textbooks, etc.).
The Write Place provides in-person and online tutoring in writing, reading, public speaking, and English as a Second Language to help improve students’ communication and reading comprehension skills across the curriculum. The writing tutors assist in any subject area, by appointment and walk-ins, on a first-come, first-served basis.

To set-up an in-person writing consultation:


Step 1: Go to the appointment page
Click this link to open the STAR Center Appointment Page.

Step 2: Select a Service
Choose “Writing/English Consultation”

Step 3: Select the Date
Select from the available dates for your appointment. Appointments must be made at least 1 hour in advance, and you can schedule up to a month in advance.

Step 4: Select Time
​Select from the available times during the librarian’s reference hours.

Step 5: Continue
​Click on the continue button.

Step 6: Check Information
​Make sure the information in the Appointment Details box is correct. If you need to make changes, select “Change Appointment Details.”

Step 7: Enter Your Details
Enter your first name, last name, email, and student ID number.
What class is this for? (If not for a specific class, enter "None")
Briefly describe the assignment, topic, or question you wish to discuss.

Don't forget to bring all of the material that you might need for the appointment (assignment, course syllabi, notes, notebook, laptop, homework, textbooks, etc.)

Visitors may not book more than two appointments back-to-back for a single service.

  • A&P tutoring appointments: Biology Homework Lab, Building B, room B-113
  • Math tutoring appointments: Math Homework Lav, Building F, room F-234
  • Writing tutoring appointments: The Write Place, Building G, room G-103
  • Spanish/Language tutoring appointments: The Language Lab, Building G, rooms G-101 & G-104
  • All other subject tutoring and academic coaching appointments: The HUB, Building F, rooms F-102 & F-112
Appiontment/Reservation Arrival Procedures
 
  • Please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
  • Proceed directly to the Service Desk in your appointment location. (See Where do I go for my appointment or reservation? above.)
  • Be sure to have your student ID number, a photo ID, and any information you might need for a successful appointment/reservation.
  • All visitors are encouraged to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Late Arrivals & Cancellations
 
  • If you arrive more than five minutes after your appointment/reservation time, call 936-273-7387 for assistance.
  • Visitors who are more than 10 minutes late for a Service Desk or Research Consultation appointment or more than 20 minutes late for a Tutoring, Writing Consultation, or Academic Coaching appointment will need to schedule a new appointment time. Reservations are held until 10 minutes before the end of the reservation time.
  • If you need to cancel your appointment/reservation, click the "To cancel this appointment/booking visit" link located at the bottom of your confirmation email.
Campus Parking Visitor Parking

• Visitors may park in the "Open Parking" areas highlighted in gray on the map.

• All visitors must check-in at Building B before proceeding to their destination on campus.

Campus Check-in Process
 
  • Effective May 22, 2021, the Health Declaration Form and Campus Check-in procedure is no longer required. You may proceed directly to your appointment/reservation location.
